Happy Birthday, “Dual Sides”!
A year ago today, rapper Manni Feeq and I released a song titled “Dual Sides”. This was my first professional release and it was my first professional duet. Manni Feeq got in contact with my manager at the time after he stumbled upon a video of me singing. After a few e-mails were exchanged he sent us a track. The track didn’t have a single word on it! Manni wanted me to take the lead and write the hook for the song before he went ahead and recorded his part. At that time he had no idea what he wanted the song to be about! Eventually he came up with a title, “Dual Sides”.
I was racking my mind over and over again trying to find inspiration. At that time I was going through a lot with friends, family and just life in general. I felt like I had to always put on a happy smile and remain positive while I felt others were being negative and kept “pushing-pushing me”. I felt like there was two sides of me. I had adopted this strong, maybe even angry, personality to survive. One night, things were heavier than usual for me. I wasn’t getting along with my family, I felt like my friends were abandoning me and I just felt alone. I felt like I was almost to the “ledge”, and then I remembered the track I was supposed to do.
I played the song on repeat, and then I just started writing! It felt so nice to get those feelings on paper. I read them to my friends and they really related to how I felt.
After we recorded it and released it, it amazed me how people related. How people understood where Manni and I were coming from. That’s why “Dual Sides” has a special place in my heart. I’m in love with the track! Producer Migue Soria remixed my hook from “Dual Sides” and we released it as a bonus track on my Autograph: The Remixes EP!
