BIOGRAPHY:
Carmine Davis is an American singer, songwriter, actor, dancer, producer, business man, and philanthropist.
Carmine Davis was born James Thompson in South Bend, IN on January 12, 1991. His brother, Trey Thompson and mother Georgianna Thompson, lived in the homes of family members until his mother got on her feet and could afford an apartment of their own. Davis’s mother, Georgianna Thompson, a single mother took jobs at DELPHI Factories to make ends meet.
While his mother was working hard putting food on the table, Carmine was at home learning dance routines and singing musical numbers with his cousins. It was there where he first adopted the love of performing. “We were those little kids that always wanted the attention to be on US. Nobody else!” Davis says with a laugh.
At the age of 5, Carmine began to imitate the singers he saw on television. Singing songs by James Brown, Luther Vandross, K-Ci & Jojo, Mariah Carey, and others Carmine’s family began to notice. Carmine wrote his first song at the age of 8.
After Carmine’s grandfather suffered from one of many strokes, the singer’s mother moved the family to Jackson, MS to be closer to his sick grandfather and escape the tough neighborhoods of South Bend, IN. Reluctantly, a young Carmine Davis started to attend the Pearl Public School District, where he immediately found it hard to adjust and fit in. “I downright hated it. I hated the school. I hated the weather. I hated the people. I just wanted to go home. I was a spoiled brat. But, eventually, I realized that I wasn’t going anywhere anytime soon, so I found a way to adjust.”
Carmine took the ‘class clown’ role. “I made a fool out of myself on a regular basis. Being sarcastic or just asking dumb questions. I never liked the ‘attention’ per say, but I liked to make people laugh.”
“I remember one time I faked a faint! I don’t know where I came up with the idea that a 10 year old fainting in class would be funny, but I did it. I hit the floor and all I heard were gasps. I closed my eyes real tight, and when I opened them… everyone around me was staring. The teacher was like ‘Oh, my Lord! Are you okay!?’ I didn’t want her to call the nurse, so I was like ‘I’m fine… I can go to my other class, now. Thank you’,” Davis says with a laugh.
Carmine Davis joined every single performing arts group possible in high school, including Choir where he was a member of Men’s Glee, and Drama where he nabbed lead roles. Carmine began to take time to privately enrich his talents and career by training professionally and studying musical acts like Prince, Janet Jackson, Lenny Kravitz, Tina Turner, Paul McCartney, Mariah Carey, Michael Jackson, James Brown, Usher, Bon Jovi, Justin Timberlake, Madonna, and more.
Davis released his debut single, “Autograph”, and began to gain world wide recognition. The catchy tune also landed him in a little hot water regarding its lyrical content. Some critics and listeners called the singer “irresponsible” for “promoting the use of the ‘pull-out’ method”.
“Never once did I say anything about the ‘pull out’ method. I never said ‘oh, I’m having unprotected sex and I’m going to pull out when it’s time to ejaculate,’ I said nothing along those lines. All it says ‘Gimme your Autograph’. I strongly believe in the use of condoms and proper contraception. The song is meant to be humorous, silly and entertaining. Nothing more,” Davis says.
After thousands of digital downloads and hits for both the “Autograph” single, remix EP and music video, Davis is set to release his next few singles which will have a “much different, unique and rock/dance edge” than it’s predecessor. Davis is in the middle of producing, writing and recording for his debut album Bizarre.
“I don’t want to repeat anything anyone’s ever done with their career. I’ve seen people come and go, and I want to remain. The best thing about my career is that I’m not taking steps backward. I’m constantly moving forward, and that’s something I’ll continue to do. I don’t stop for anyone, and never will.”
